About Adele Baxter – Pilates &
Corrective Movement Coach
Adele’s Journey
A young mother who embarked on training with a trainer
I found great joy and training results in my thirties. Interval training, power walking, cycling. Every day training with no injuries. My body was compliant. My trainer suggested I do a training course, I did and I chose spinning as my elective. I loved the idea of training to music.
Opening a gym in my basement and Teaching spinning for Virgin Active for 10 years
Fun times – I loved my classes at Virgin Active, all the happy smily faces at 05H00 on Monday mornings. I wanted flexibility with my children and opened up a little gym in my garage. Purchased one bike, one treadmill and a few free weights. It was successful and it was time to move to the next step
Growth
I embarked on a bigger space, spinning bikes, kettle bells. I enjoyed it for a while and found myself wanting more. I needed the client to experience change that had longevity.
Pilates
A trip to Spain opened the door. The Spanish love Pilates. On my return I enrolled with Trifocus to complete a Comprehensive Pilates Course. I had the privilege of being trained under Marcel and Garth. My first experience was on the “Reformer”, I will not forget the awesome feeling. My body adjusted beautifully to pilates. I completed my course end 2014 and invested in my first reformer. I had the privilege of training Charne Glanz and Candice. They were kind, I would have my book opened and refer to it.
Pilates
After a vacation in Australia for 6 weeks, I experienced a major shift. I did not understand at the time what was happening. My energy levels dropped, and my ability to spin at high interval levels changed. I did not understand the “Why”. With hindsight, I needed to make major adjustments to my training. I was in denial and continued to force my body to spin at high interval levels. Until I was forced to Adjust. My body was no longer compliant, so I took more intense pilates courses with “Katya Kinski”. A truly knowledgeable, strong trainer. Her background (lead dancer for the Cape Town City Ballet and the thriving Pilates Studio in Cape Town). My studio grew from strength to strength. I immersed myself in understanding movement
Work Shift
After many group classes, I experienced a shift to Private Sessions with clients who experienced medical conditions.
Pierre -spondylolisthesis
At 57 my running, golfing and all sporting activities came to an abrupt end. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis(vertebrae slip)in my lower back and could no long bear the pain. I became grumpy. Normal chores like shaving and putting on socks became extremely painful. Having consulted numerous specialists I was booked to have 3 vertebrae fused. Shortly before the op, I underwent a facet rhizotomy (temporarily, densensitises the nerves) in the lower back. With less pain I was able to start Pilates and some 20 months later continue to attend two personal sessions every week and stretch whenever possible. The strength and agility from Pilates allows me to play golf again, walk, cycle and snow ski, although running is not possible. No surgery was necessary and although my back will never be 100% again I can exercise regularly, thanks to Pilates and the advice and support from Adele. Pilates and stretching will be part of my life forever. Thanks Adele
Pierre was one of my first clients with severe pain. Lots of research ended with this testimonial.
Another Change
The business thrived until the unforeseen arrival of Covid. In response, I pivoted, renting out my studio spaces to physios, chiros, and occupational therapists. Post-Menopause diagnosis brought forth a new adjustment in my training regimen.
Major Adjustment - Experience is a good teacher
Experience has taught me that we all constantly are adjusting, we evolve. If you open to growth, the most beautiful transformations are experienced. I now run a pilates studio at my home. Feedback from a client “A tranquil spot inside and out, easy to get to, shady parking and a great welcomer”
